Satisfying my Nesting Instinct!


I saw this little craft online (I know, surprise, surprise…me, spending time online looking for craft ideas…shocking). Anyways, I thought I would give it a try to hold my homemade Easter eggs. But, then I thought the nests could be used for a bunch of different Easter ideas.

The nests I saw online were not made in muffin cups, but they are so flaky, I decided that they needed something to hold them together.
I bought the Kataifi dough at NoFrills, it was in the frozen department, beside the filo dough. It is basically shredded Filo pastry. I am not sure if Kataifi is the brand name, or the type of dough, but here is what the package looks like:

The hardest part for me to make these, was to wait the two hours for the Kataifi dough to thaw! they are very easy!
After the dough finally thawed, I mixed a few tablespoons of melted butter, and about the same amount of sugar. I cut the dough into about three inch lengths and pulled it apart so it was one big tangle.

Then I filled the muffin cups with a few pinches of the dough, and tossed the muffin pans into the oven at 375 degrees for about 6-7 minutes. I waited until the outsides were a golden brown to make sure the insides had cooked.

And, that’s it! My nesting instincts have been satisfied! Now I have adorable, edible holders for my eggs!


You could also fill these with store bought eggs, or plastic eggs, or even make little place card holders.
