20 minute canvas art!

Standard

So, when I was shopping for artwork for the kids bathroom, I came across this canvas idea that looked so easy, so I decided to give it a try. It was 69.99 at Home Outfitters, and I can make it for less than $5.00…yahoo for me!
To make this you will need the following;
Paint brushes
Glue gun and sticks
Black paint
A canvas (the pre-wrapped kind, you can buy at any craft store, Walmart, and now even at the dollar store!

So, the canvas was such a simple idea, it was just a bunch of raised circles. I thought I could get the same result from using a glue gun. The nice part is that the circles don’t have to be perfect. I started by lightly sketching out where I wanted the circles to be with a pencil.

Then I traced over my pencil lines with the glue gun.

Once I had traced over all of the lines, I thought it looked a little plain…

So… I decided to add a few more circles to the design. Why not make this one better than the one I saw in the store??

Finally, I painted the whole thing black.

So, if you know me, or have been reading this blog, you know that I have been able to figure how how to lay tiles, change faucets, replace a toilet etc. just with the help of YouTube (what did people do before YouTube??) and the guys at Home Depot… Most things are not that difficult to do, but just require a little courage to try (either that or blind stupidity, depending on the way that you look at it) Anyways, the one craft that I think requires the most amount of skill is dry walling. The guys on YouTube make it look easy, but let’s just say that it isn’t easy, I thought I would be good at it, but it is surprisingly difficult! Why am I talking about this now? Because this is why I needed this artwork, to cover up where I ripped out the medicine cabinet in the bathroom, and patched the drywall…

And…done!

I would like to try another design, like maybe swirls or circles in more of a random pattern too! Its hard to take a good picture, because it is black, but I am very happy with the result.
Btw… I have been playing around with a couple apps to make collage photos of my posts…sort of a summary! So I am going to start posting the collages at the end of each post…

Keyboard art

Standard

So as my husband john will tell you, being a creative person means I also possess a few hoarding tendencies. I see the potential in egg cartons, toilet paper rolls and things like old keyboards. I save stuff because I see the potential!
So, instead of throwing out old keyboards, I thought they could be used for something….then I came up with an idea for the computer lab at school… Why not make some artwork out of them? So, I used a butter knife to pop off all of the keys on the keyboard, found an old, ugly frame, painted it and then got out my glue gun…but then I realized that I needed more keyboards! So I put an ad on Freecycle. For those people who do not know Freecycle, it is great! It is a website where you can post looking for things, or offering things. It’s a great alternative to throwing things out, because there are always people like me who save stuff!
Sorry i dont have any pictures of the work in progress, but i made it before starting my blog, and the steps are pretty simple. Here is the finished product…

That piece took eight keyboards to make! The cool thing is you can also make smaller versions, and you can make personalized frames…why not spell out someone’s name or a message? So cute!
